Good location and services with water, coffee, and tea available in the room. Also a nice coffee or Japanese green tea service available from 4-8pm daily in the “refresh lounge.”

A Hidden Gem That Gets the Details Just Right Every so often, you come across a hotel that quietly gets almost everything right—and Hotel Niwa did just that. This boutique-sized hotel made my first visit to Tokyo feel extra special. The rooms are small, but incredibly well-designed. There’s nothing flashy here—just simple, thoughtful touches: a bedside rotary dial to dim the lights, seamless casting to the TV, and a perfectly shaped bathtub. I’m not even a bath person, but with the bath salts provided and Tokyo’s delicious water, I found myself soaking almost every night. The breakfast buffet was one of the best I’ve had—an ideal balance of Western and Japanese offerings. The 3rd floor community space was a real standout: peaceful, beautifully designed with water trickling outside, and a variety of seating areas, including a cozy tatami section. Whether you’re unwinding after a long day or easing into the morning with a book, it’s the kind of space you’ll truly miss. There’s also a rooftop area perfect for quiet reflection—my sister used it every morning to set her intentions for the day. This hotel isn’t brand new, and you can tell it’s been around for a while—but in the best way. It’s well-loved, well-run, and crafted with care. What really sets Hotel Niwa apart is that they’ve clearly learned from experience and put those lessons into action. Every detail feels intentional. These folks are masters of thoughtful hotel accommodations—and it shows

We stayed 11 nights at Hotel Niwa. Liked the gardens, the breakfast buffet, the staff, comfortable beds, nice bathroom and products, 3rd floor zen garden, laundry, massage chairs. AC good. Close to tons of restaurants and shops. 5 min away from Suidobashi Station. Very close to Tokyo Dome and LaQua Spa complex which has lots of restaurants and shops including a very nice grocery store, a lovely food hall, Muji, 2 Starbucks, an amusement park and lots more. We went many times to Boulange for breakfast, a nice bakery.

Hotel Niwa Tokyo is truly a hidden gem. Every time I visit Tokyo, I always choose to stay at this hotel and for good reason. The staff is incredibly helpful and kind. During my last stay, I had to print 22 custom-designed cards on special Japanese paper for a dinner I was organizing. The team went above and beyond to assist me, printing everything flawlessly and even helping me carry everything to the car so I could arrive on time. Their dedication and attention to detail made all the difference. The service at Hotel Niwa goes far beyond expectations always warm, attentive, and professional. The restaurant, especially the Japanese one, is absolutely fantastic. A true culinary experience. The neighborhood is also one of my favorites in Tokyo quiet, charming, filled with lovely shops, restaurants, and cafés, yet still very central and well-connected to the subway. Honestly, Hotel Niwa is one of my favorite hotels in the world. I wholeheartedly recommend it. To the Niwa team thank you once again for a wonderful stay!

We loved everything about our stay at the hotel Niwa. It exceeded our expectations, everything was perfect! The room was spacious enough for 2 people with 2 large suitcases, everything in the hotel was very well thought out and designed, down to the smallest detail. The water features and greenery give it a very calming, soothing feel and make it a little oasis in the middle of the city. Laundry facilities are available on the 3 rd floor which is a huge plus. The beds are very comfortable with high quality crisp cotton linens, the coffee provided it the room is excellent! The room scent throughout the entire property is very pleasant, the toiletries are lovely …. I could go on … location is very good with lots of eatery options, convenience stores around and only a 5 minute walk to the metro which we found is well connected to the rest of the city. Absolutely fabulous place!

Lovely relaxation room looking over a small traditional Japanese garden, open 24/7. The rooms are small by western standards but large by Japanese standards. There was enough room in the gym for me to practice yoga. There are also a few other small gardens throughout the hotel which gave it a more peaceful feeling. At first the restaurant said they couldn’t accommodate vegetarians, but mid week after one of the waitress spoke to the kitchen, they started preparing a few veggie dishes for me. Unfortunately there are very few restaurants offering vegetarian options so it was difficult to eat locally. The location is good from a public transport perspective.

Very welcoming staff. Rooms are clean. Locations is walkable distance (25min) to Imperial Palace/Main train station and same to Ueno station/Ueno park. Many restaurants and mini markets around. In this property you will find everything what you need for your trip: amenities are good, coffee in the room, detergent included in the washing machines. Relaxing room with massage chairs is so nice while you wait your laundry to finish. Tea, food in Japanese restaurant so so good. Big thank you to hotel’s reception staff who helped a lot with booking tours and overall hospitality. Arigato kosay mas!

Great little boutique hotel. The breakfast was incredible - many healthy and tasty options, all very fresh. A great variety. We were about a 5 minute walk from the Tokyo Dome and the Dome Attractions, as well as the subway station, making it very easy to get around. It rained a couple of days, but umbrellas were provided for use by the hotel. We did laundry there, and it was fairly straightforward process (you can use an app, to pay digitally from your phone with a credit card). Very accommodating to all of our needs. We all slept very comfortably in our beds!

Hotel Niwa has a welcoming vibe, modern Japanese style decor, and handy amenities like a rooftop terrace, massage chair room, and common room with a zen garden view. Our superior double room was clean, roomy for Japan, and had a great bath. The staff were very helpful and also spoke English, and were very accommodating when we requested luggage forwarding - we thought that it would be a huge headache but they handled it all for us. The location near the Jimbocho bookshop district was great, and it was a great central location. Chiyoda is an area with schools and universities nearby and was a nice oasis away from the crowds. We loved our stay and would stay again.
